Best place to look for them is along the footpath that runs along the back of the pool- pause for a few minutes at one of the gaps in the vegetation where you can see the back of the reedbed and there's usually one or two about. Mainly winter visitors but I wouldn't be at all suprised if they breed on site. I usually pick them up by looking for the vibrations in the water as they move about- its amazing how easily and nimbly they move between the reeds. Stunning birds really.
ReplyDeleteI have seen them at St Andrews quite often but being deaf does not help in looking for a shy bird.
