Report John Rance. (24th October 2012)

Around the pool this morning :

3 Pochard ( 1 m 2f)

5 Shoveler ( 2m 3f)

5 Tufties ( 2 m, 1 f 2 juv)

1 Little Egret, Water Rail ( heard) Reed Bunting ( f ) 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Chiffchaff, and 1 f Bullfinch

Also a 3rd cy ‘graellsii’ LBB Gull with a single metal (BTO?) ring on its left leg.

You might get a few more reports from next Thursday onwards Trevor, parking charges at Par Beach disappear for a few months! Does that mean we might see you and Angie out on the patch again?

Well I am trying to get something organised Andy. Angie has the car every weekday for work and I am left on dog-watch but I am hoping to get the MIL to watch the animals at least once a week while I get out .

Black Head to Gribbin Head. O.S Landranger Map 204

The area between the two heads will be the patch watched.

The watch will concentrate on Eight main areas.

The Fort Copse Settlement. Boscoppa (Own private garden)

Par Beach Pool and St Andrews Road Pool and surrounding areas

Carloggas Downs (SX 0256)

The SWCP area between Polkerris and Gribbin Head.

The scenic cliff top walk between Ropehaven and Charlestown

The Luxulyan Valley including Pontsmill and Treffrey Viaduct.

Treskilling Downs (SX 0357) Treskilling Pit

Seawatching between the two National Trust points

St Austell

St Austell is the largest town in Cornwall.

A Market Town since 1189 and has now undergone a major regeneration program .

The new shopping and leisure centre (White River Place) opened October 2009 and employs 500 - 700 people.

Imery's modernized China Clay industry employs 2000 which is a huge drop from the early 20th Century when tin, copper and china clay found in the hills made St Austell a major Cornish industrial centre.

Another industry still alive and kicking is the St Austell Brewery which celebrated 150 years of trading in 2001.
