Hi, It's Andy Thomas from Shrewsbury again. Wonderful time at the Gribben this morning - I was there from 7 and remembered to take a camping chair this time! Quiet for most of the time, but interesting things do happen if you wait......

Photographs and report Andy Thomas.
Thank you for the report and photographs Andy. You are becoming our Gribben watcher.
The first picture is of Elvis an Indian Eagle Owl The second a Barn Owl. Both taken at the Screech Owl Sanctuary during Mark Whittaker's Owl Flying Display.
I took a short walk down to Spit Beach at lunchtime, once the drizzle had eased off! On the rocks between the beach and the harbour four Common Sandpipers and a Curlew could be seen, along with the usual Oystercatchers (12). Half a dozen Gannets were plunge-diving offshore, between the harbour and Polkerris. A single Sandwich Tern was also present. Report. Phil Ouless. ....................................................................................................................................................................
Took my sister boyfriend who is a keen novice birder from Switzerland down to Spit Beach at High Tide (around 3:30pm) and saw the following of note :
6 nesting Herring Gulls and 1 nesting Lesser Black Backed on the roof on the Imerys works to the left of the Iron Bridge on the path leading towards the beach. Also 4 Chiffchaff feeding around the pipes on small insects/flies.
On the rocks at the beach were 2 Common Sandpiper and 1 Adult Med Gull
In the harbour there were 2 Lesser Black Backed Gull , 1 of which was very dark indeed and probably of the variety Larus fuscus fuscus (Baltic sea, Eastern Scandinavia).

Thank you Phil and Marko for the reports. Not the ideal sort of day weatherwise so I am glad you were both rewarded with sightings.
Hi. 10 Dunlin & 2 Ringed Plover on the beach this evening. Phil Ouless
Thank you for the report Phil. There is a lot of activity on the beach at the moment with the holiday makers and their dogs. Not ideal for birdwatching. This Blog runs down during the summer months as not much is reported. The well off are away on holidays and the really well off are chasing Butterflies...that only leaves me to chase bird shadows.
On Monday afternoon (27th) I had the great fortune to watch 3 juvenile Peregrines . Initially seen flying together, I later saw all three at very close range, perched on adjacent fence posts along the coastal footpath. The birds could be seen scratching & wing stretching, finally moving on after about ten minutes. With thanks, Phil Ouless.
Thank you for the report Phil. I have omitted the place and map reference for security reasons. Must has been a rewarding sight.
A Market Town since 1189 and has now undergone a major regeneration program .
The new shopping and leisure centre (White River Place) opened October 2009 and employs 500 - 700 people.
Imery's modernized China Clay industry employs 2000 which is a huge drop from the early 20th Century when tin, copper and china clay found in the hills made St Austell a major Cornish industrial centre.
Another industry still alive and kicking is the St Austell Brewery which celebrated 150 years of trading in 2001.
