Report Extra

"Hope I'm not too late, but somehow I forgot the 2nd new Butterfly for yesterday 6thJuly ! In addition to the Purple H'Streak at Pontsmill there was a 'new' species at Treskilling Down (SX0357). This was : 1 x GATEKEEPER "

  1. I've never seen a Purple Hairstreak, though I've been told that here is a couple in Wales, not to far.

  2. Possibly the most common butterfly in oak woodland of the south and west, yet the least often seen species ! I seldom see more than half dozen in a year. Yet in favoured locations on oak (and sometimes Ash) it is possible to see a score or more. Ask where your local 'site' is.
