Black Redstart.

Report and Photograph. Mark Whittaker. 1st January 2011
A very Happy New Year to you
Manoa valley today produced a very pretty Firecrest along with around 20 Meadow Pipits and all the common ticks including Dipper and Grey Wagtail.
St.Andrews had 2 Shoveler Duck (m & f) with no sign of the Female Goosander.
Did have a look in Snowlands but very quiet indeed.
Par Beach Pool still had the Female Goldeneye showing at the back right along with Tufted and a few Teal. Didn't see the Bittern but had been seen in the morning.
I met Bob and Lesley Mitchell at St.Andrews Pool who said there was a Black Restart on the beach at Par near the river mouth which I saw and have added the photo for you.
.
We did manage to catch up with the Black Redstart after your tip off.
The bird is showing really well around the Western River. Thanks.
