Photographed this morning at Par Beach Pool (0915hrs)
Is this a hybrid Mallard or Pintail or have I hit the jackpot and it is indeed the Aussie Wood Duck?
I leave it in the hands of the experts.

No, that's not the bird I saw, although looking at the head, i'd agree with your Pintail x Mallard hybrid theory. The Aussie Wood Duck is a different looking bird, almost like a miniature goose.
