Glossy Ibis at Par Beach Pool

Hi Trevor,

Glossy ibis at the pool this morning ! C.8.15am
Saw it take off out the reedbeed at the back of the pool and circle a couple of times before heading off north- might have roosted there so might be worth looking for coming or going into roost the next couple of days.

Update

Its 9.20 and just seen it again- its missing some wing feathers on one wing so I'm sure its the same individual.

Report John Rance.

A nice sighting that John. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Photos taken in the summer and the pond at Par beach was getting very low on water and creating muddy islands which were frequented by a flock of 12 dunlin. They were very busy feeding and i could get very close and take some nice close up photos at ground level with some odd looks from passers by.  Also treated to a ariel display on several occasions when they would fly off and return to the same place. Sunday, 9 March 2014

Thank you for the reports and photographs Andy. I am sure the car park fees have seen the demise of a lot of local bird watchers.
Met up with Andrew Carey late this afternoon at Par beach and got talking about how there is not much around at the moment and with the car park fees not many people are going there. I have been going to Spit beach trying to take some nice photos of the male black redstart but very camra shy.Went out on the rocks and took this photo of a ringed plover               Andy Cross

Parked up at the side of the indian restaurant rather than pay to have a ten minute look over the pond but no need to go anywhere as there were a pair of swallows flying down to a small muddy pool and scooping mud and small twigs . They were busy doing this  for about an hour and was able to take several photos without leaving the car

Went down to Par beach pond this afternoon and noticed this longlegged wader on the opposite side of the pond time i got round there he had flown around to where i was earlier .Caught up with him and took some really nice photos. I am glad Andy Carey turned up as i was not quite sure what it was. Andy said it was a juvenile Black tailed Godwit now coming out in summer plummage. What a stunning colour.  Andy Cross

Hi. I am back online had problems with sending photos etc. Anyway here is a rare photo of a heron on Par beach pond which i took quite a while ago . You dont see herons feeding at the pond much now. Its proberly due to lack of fish ?  Hope this photo got through. Andy Cross.

Hi Trevor,
I was down at the weekend and enjoyed the brief respite in the weather. I took my wife's dog for a run  on spit beach ( he loves it but not good for watching birds!). No interesting birds but I was surprised to see Canada Geese on top of the drying sheds. Also amazed to see the damage to the Harbour wall from Friday nights storm. Photos attached.

Hi Trevor
A report for the beleaguered Baywatch blog!!
The Whooper Swan first reported at Par Beach Pool was still showing well this afternoon. After a facebook discussion with friends from the Helston area, it appears that this is NOT the same bird as that on Helston Boating Lake.
Pics attached
Trust you're well?
Cheers
Andy

Hi Trevor,
Last evening there was a 40 strong mixed flock of Dunlin and Ringed Plover on Par Beach.
Also on the pool a Common Sandpiper and a Wood Sandpiper. Is the wood a first for the pool?

Also to my shame I should have sent you what is now a very late record record of a juvenile Little Ringed Plover on the pool on 17/07/2013. My apologies. Again is this a first?

Best Wishes

Report and photographs Nigel Climpson.

A nice pair of photographs Nigel.  You will have to ask the experts for that answer....can anyone supply the information?

Report lilahstewart

Thank you for the update lilahstewart.
Hi Trevor, I couldn't help but notice your site is looking a bit sparse at the moment, so here are some images from a rather spectacular day's watching last Thursday. The locals put on quite a show!
1849: Kestrel above Polkerris (I hadn't noticed it until I looked at the picture!)
1878 & 1886: Kestrel giving Buzzard a hard time, same location.
1925: Gannet
1926: Seal, at the Gribben
More to follow!
Andy Thomas (Shrewsbury)

Hi Andy. Thanks for the report and photographs.
Things have indeed taken a nosedive...parking charges at PBP do not help and of course myself and Roger are somewhat housebound. It does seem a little ironic a man from Shrewsbury is keeping us afloat.
