Went down to Par beach pond this afternoon and noticed this longlegged wader on the opposite side of the pond time i got round there he had flown around to where i was earlier .Caught up with him and took some really nice photos. I am glad Andy Carey turned up as i was not quite sure what it was. Andy said it was a juvenile Black tailed Godwit now coming out in summer plummage. What a stunning colour.  Andy Cross

Hi. I am back online had problems with sending photos etc. Anyway here is a rare photo of a heron on Par beach pond which i took quite a while ago . You dont see herons feeding at the pond much now. Its proberly due to lack of fish ?  Hope this photo got through. Andy Cross.

Hi Trevor,
I was down at the weekend and enjoyed the brief respite in the weather. I took my wife's dog for a run  on spit beach ( he loves it but not good for watching birds!). No interesting birds but I was surprised to see Canada Geese on top of the drying sheds. Also amazed to see the damage to the Harbour wall from Friday nights storm. Photos attached.

Hi Trevor
A report for the beleaguered Baywatch blog!!
The Whooper Swan first reported at Par Beach Pool was still showing well this afternoon. After a facebook discussion with friends from the Helston area, it appears that this is NOT the same bird as that on Helston Boating Lake.
Pics attached
Trust you're well?
Cheers
Andy

Hi Trevor,
Last evening there was a 40 strong mixed flock of Dunlin and Ringed Plover on Par Beach.
Also on the pool a Common Sandpiper and a Wood Sandpiper. Is the wood a first for the pool?

Also to my shame I should have sent you what is now a very late record record of a juvenile Little Ringed Plover on the pool on 17/07/2013. My apologies. Again is this a first?

Best Wishes

A nice pair of photographs Nigel.  You will have to ask the experts for that answer....can anyone supply the information?

Still 7 Med Gulls at Par Beach Pool 28th July 2013 .Adult ,2 2nd summer (9M8 Ringed at Siene et marne France), 2 1st Summer and 2 Juveniles

Report lilahstewart

Thank you for the update lilahstewart.
Hi Trevor, I couldn't help but notice your site is looking a bit sparse at the moment, so here are some images from a rather spectacular day's watching last Thursday. The locals put on quite a show!
1849: Kestrel above Polkerris (I hadn't noticed it until I looked at the picture!)
1878 & 1886: Kestrel giving Buzzard a hard time, same location.
1925: Gannet
1926: Seal, at the Gribben
More to follow!
Andy Thomas (Shrewsbury)

Hi Andy. Thanks for the report and photographs.
Things have indeed taken a nosedive...parking charges at PBP do not help and of course myself and Roger are somewhat housebound. It does seem a little ironic a man from Shrewsbury is keeping us afloat.

Black-Tailed Godwit

Hi trevor,

1 summer plumage 'islandica' black tailed godwit at the Pool today-  very poor mobile shot atttached which really doesn't do it justice!

Photograph and report. John Rance

Looking very lonely out there John.

Wednesday, 29 May 2013

This bird of prey was hovering above the coastal path overlooking Crinnis beach at Carlyon Bay last Saturday (25th). Some walkers said it looked like sparrowhawk but I thought it might be a kestrel.

Report and photograph Chris Holyoak.

That is a Kestrel Chris.

Hi Trevor,

Several flocks of Whimbrel moving along  the beach and circling the Pool this morning: c30 birds.

John

John Rance's report was for the 29th May.
Thank you John. A lot of Whimbrel for Par I think..

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

Went to Spit this morning but it was too cold to do anything but shiver - a Gannet came close in-shore but camera not ready.

Par Beach Pool around 2.00 - A very aggressive Mute Swan, caused quite a stir. Nice picture of a Heron flying away.

Andy Thomas

Thank you for the report and photographs Andy.

Hi Trevor,
Another miserable afternoon but Sid Cole spotted this Green Sandpiper on Par Beach Pool. Is this a first for the pool?
Best Wishes
Nigel Climpson

Nice photographs Nigel. I cannot recall  ever seeing a report of one at PBP but I could be mistaken.
Anyone out there who can remember seeing one before at Par ...please let us know.
